SPRING 2023 TREND: DENIM, DENIM, BABY

Dear Ms Indigo,

Denim-lovers (and who isn’t?) can unite and rejoice this Spring! This season, fashion is obsessed with denim in the never-ending tsunami of the Y2K wave; But “how” should denim be worn to look new and modern? We suggest the ways in this trend report, alongside fashion tips on what luxury bags to wear it with. As an overview, there’s a denim style for everyone in Spring 2023 denim looks, except for this one absolute no-no to observe: No skinny jeans – at least for now. Instead, the current trend is for the extra baggy – and extra comfortable, recalling the de rigeur “sagging” street styles of the early 2000s. If you haven’t ventured into the world of slouchy denim the first time round, now is the time to do it.

Try distressed, low-slung, sandwashed, printed and studded denim for this Y2K makeover – think Vanilla Ice and his 1990 hit song “Ice, Ice, Baby.” While this trend could instil terror for those old enough to have survived it the first time round, designers have finessed this retro look, making it ever edgier and less Britney Spears. Style jeans worn with fluffy cream-puff ballgowns, or denim on denim outfits in a bra and blazer. The idea is to elevate tonal double denim sets.

Notably at Alexander McQueen, designer Sarah Burton has reworked a fresh, feminine take on Lee McQueen’s infamous bumster jeans from 1993. On other luxe runways, denim comes printed, distressed, shredded, as cargo pants, as coats and maxi dresses. Leading the denim pack was fashion icon Kate Moss looking suddenly fresh in a pair of denim illusion, printed leather jeans at Bottega Veneta. Relaxed, roomy jeans walked the runways at Chloé, Jacquemus and Givenchy; Meanwhile at Burberry and Alaïa, the denim maxi skirt reigned, feeding the appetite for all things denim.

ABARA proposes that you wear your new denims with any one of our classic luxury bags to provide contrast and elevation. We have the perfect clutch bag for this season’s maxi skirt trend. ABARA also has crossbody bags with versatile straps to be styled into something easy and casual, to help you transition denim into everyday glam. For those sold-out wide leg denims, ABARA has the Bow Accordion Mini, which is a stylish waist-pouch, which can also be used as a wallet for women. With ever more designers expanding their denim offerings, ABARA tote bags will prove a great way to buy into luxury denim trend.
