Before we get into how to clean your leather bag, let's begin by understanding the factors that undesirably impact the appearance of your purse is essential, especially since you've spent your money on it.

Take better care of your leather bag by learning the common causes of blemishes:

  • Dirt exists almost anywhere; If you are careless about the surface on which you place your bag, your bag is at risk of accumulating dirt. Dirt accumulation may result in dark discolouration of your bag.
  • Dust is made up of much smaller particles than dirt and occurs more frequently. Even if you have handled your leather bag with care, dust marks may form.
  • Mould occurs as a result of storing your bag in a humid environment. Humid air allows fungi and mould to grow. If you notice white spots on your bag, it is likely that mould has grown on it.
  • Stains commonly occur from an unintentional drink spill, ink streaks and makeup.
  • Grease may come into contact with your leather bag as a result of your meal. Unfortunately, grease is the most challenging stain to remove once it has settled. Unlike other types of stains, grease absorbs deeply into the leather.

Keeping Your Leather Bag Spotless

  • Apply leather conditioner once a month to prevent discolouration.
  • Wipe down your bag regularly to keep your bag looking spotless.
  • Keep your bag inside a dust bag when not using.

How To Clean Your Leather Bag At Home

Start by cleaning the bag inside and outside with the cleaning solution. Always use a proper leather cleaner; Never use baby wipes, vinegar, or any other items for cleaning or stain removal. These products may contain chemicals and substances that can cause damage to the colour, dry the leather, create a build-up of grease, and any number of other problems.

After cleaning, let dry for a couple of minutes before applying protection cream. Take extra care with the handles, corners, and frequently touched areas. You then leave this to dry for ten minutes before buffing off any excess.

If you don’t want to clean the full bag, focus on the main areas such as the handles.

ABARA bags are made from lightly treated leathers for their durability and luxurious feel. However, this means they can be absorbent, and prone to stain when in contact with common factors. Of course, prevention is better than a cure, but accidents do happen, so if you accidentally stain your daily bag, quickly reduce the staining to ensure that it causes minimal damage.

Blot the stained area as soon as possible with a clean, dry cloth. Absorb as much of the liquid as possible. After you have removed the excess liquid, you should then blot the stained area with a damp cloth or tissue using warm water.

Start at the outside of the stain and work inwards. This will stop the stain from spreading out. Dab the stained area with a dry cloth or tissue to absorb any left-over water. Never rub the stained area as this can cause the stain to spread. Dry in a warm room. Do not apply heat directly to the stained area as this can set the stain.
