A TOUCH OF ZEN

A TOUCH OF ZEN

Dear Reader,

This fashion season is nothing short of a tsunami of Zen, with everything quite literally Noughties: stripped away and plainly unadorned styles dominating runways and walkways. Luxury labels are (mostly) throwing out all the fashion bells and whistles to embrace plain, graceful looks after seasons and seasons of shrieking “look at me” designs.

Pared-down elegance looks fit these sad economic times, if nothing else, and this season, when top couture houses eschew the gilt and the bling – Dior sent out a group of dresses completely shorn of detail and logos and Chanel presented unembellished gowns – you know minimalism is in the zeitgeist! Giorgio Armani, the master of Zen dressing did it best with a classic collection that showed a strong Asian influence.

Although Chloe is usually known for girlish glam and flirty flounces, this Spring sees them tone it way down with more pared down dresses. As for the iconic Loewe, the collection showed one dramatically reduced dress after another, culminating in a gigantic, cosy and deconstructed grey sweatshirt so vast and so mind-bending that it gave minimalism a whole new relvance.

It’s a 1990s revival now, and at ABARA, we have just the elegantly pared down handbags that are right on trend! Our Bow Accordion Mini, and the boxy yet graphic Vanity Case, both in créme calf leather are completely sleek and minimal and has an intriguing origami geometry that would perfectly go with your new minimalist wardrobe…
